The MaXi Race in Annecy, the ultimate race for nature-loving sports enthusiasts

Take Lake Annecy, one of Europe’s most beautiful lakes, with its crystal-clear waters surrounded by mountains and unspoilt nature. Add professional organizers and a team of volunteers who want to challenge trail enthusiasts with a course that’s far more demanding than a simple marathon reserved for great runners in excellent physical condition, with 5,200 meters of ascent and 82 km to cover. The result is the MaXi-Race, an ultra-mountain race that requires Olympic fitness and a mind of steel.

The next edition of MaXi-Race d’Annecy will take place from May 24 to 26, 2019. Such is the success of this eagerly-awaited event that the site is already accepting no new registrations, and the last bibs are only available in partner stores.

After the race number ceremony on Friday 24th, 1,800 runners will put on their trail shoes and set off at 3am on Saturday May 25th. The first will arrive between 12:00 and 12:30, the last around 23:30 after 20 hours of effort. This legendary race is open to all runners over the age of 20 who want to push their limits and defy the elements, men and women alike.

MaXi Race 2019 route in France

The 2019 MaXi-Race will start from the port of Annecy-le-Vieux. The loop goes around Lake Annecy in a clockwise direction (east bank then west bank), crossing the surrounding mountains. Runners will pass by Mont Veyrier, Mont Baron, Villards, La Forclaz, the Marais du bout du lac d’Annecy nature reserve, Doussard, Lathuile, Entrevernes, Saint-Eustache, Leschaux, the Semnoz, the Sevrier woods and Annecy.

On their route, runners will find several refreshment points (food + liquids) at kilometers 18 (summit of Semnoz), 45 (Doussard), 65 (Villard dessus) and 80 (Plage d’Annecy-le-Vieux), as well as two water ramps at kilometers 38 and 54.
